1. Independent Service Provider Acknowledgment
You acknowledge and agree that CheckMac is an independent computer repair and upgrade facility located in Dubuque, Iowa. CheckMac is not owned, operated by, affiliated with, sponsored by, or an authorized service provider for Apple Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Dell, HP, Lenovo, or any other trademark holder. Mention of specific brands and trademarks is strictly intended for device identification and functional compatibility.
2. Repair Authorization & Diagnostic Process
When delivering a computer, laptop, or mobile device to CheckMac for service, you authorize our technicians to inspect, test, disassemble, and perform necessary diagnostics on the hardware and software components.
- Initial Diagnostics: Our initial hardware and software diagnostic is provided free of charge when you proceed with an approved repair or upgrade service. If you choose not to proceed with recommended repairs after a detailed diagnosis, a standard diagnostic bench fee of $29 applies to cover bench testing labor.
- Work Authorization: Technicians will present you with an itemized quote detailing estimated parts and labor. No physical repairs or part installations will commence without your verbal or written consent.
3. Customer Data & Backup Responsibility
While CheckMac exercises high professional diligence and strict data confidentiality protocols, digital storage devices (such as failing mechanical hard drives, corrupt flash storage, or liquid-damaged solid-state drives) are inherently prone to sudden total failure.
- You are strongly encouraged to back up all personal data, photos, documents, and programs prior to delivering your device for service.
- CheckMac shall not be held liable for loss or corruption of pre-existing data resulting from underlying hardware wear, bad sectors, virus damage, or liquid corrosion.
- If data cloning or migration is requested as part of an SSD upgrade, we will clone the drive structure as it exists at the time of intake.
4. Pricing, Payments & Invoices
Payment in full is due upon completion of the authorized repair work and prior to equipment release. We accept major credit/debit cards, cash, and authorized digital payments. All sales tax is applied in accordance with State of Iowa regulations.
5. Parts & Labor Warranty
All replacement hardware parts and labor performed by CheckMac are warranted for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of device pickup, subject to the terms detailed in our Warranty & Refund Policy. The warranty does not cover subsequent physical drops, cracked glass, liquid spills, unauthorized third-party tampering, or reinfection by user-downloaded malware.
6. Unclaimed Property Policy
Once repair work or diagnostic testing is completed, CheckMac will notify you via telephone, voicemail, or email that your equipment is ready for collection. If equipment remains unclaimed for more than sixty (60) days following notice, and after reasonable attempts to reach you, the property may be deemed abandoned and disposed of or recycled in accordance with Iowa state property statutes to recoup outstanding parts and diagnostic storage costs.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall CheckMac, its owners, or employees be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, loss of business revenue, or loss of profits arising out of or in connection with repair services. CheckMac's total liability under any claim shall not exceed the actual amount paid by you for the specific repair service in dispute.
8. Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Iowa, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal actions arising hereunder shall be filed in the courts of Dubuque County, Iowa.
